Arley Armfield—Kaba’s killer was cleared of all murder charges yesterday in court.
In 2022, Chris Kaba was driving a vehicle in front of officers that was allegedly linked to a shooting in London at the time.
The officers attempted to pull Kaba over and had his car boxed in, where he allegedly tried to ram his way free which endangered the life of one of the officers, which is the justification for shooting at the vehicle.
Kaba was killed immediately after a gunshot wound to the forehead, tragically, he was expected to be a father in the coming weeks and months.
Chris Kaba’s death should have been a time to reap justice for not only Kaba and his family, but all people affected by police violence and brutality, however, the British Justice System has yet again shown the systematic oppression within it.
Mr. Blake, the officer who shot the firearm appeared in court and was heavily defended by the Met. Police in court and out of it.
The Metropolitan Police Commissioner said Mr Blake had paid “a huge personal and professional sacrifice” since the shooting happened two years ago, yet he has not actually been in prison and the maximum sentence for murder and manslaughter in the UK is not 2 years, its life (for normal people).
Other officers in court described him as someone who serves the public and London, and had he been charged it would have been a bad day for police officers who do “their best”.
Mr. Kaba’s family said they were devastated by the verdict, and that the acquittal of Mr. Blake “wasn’t just a failure for our family, but for all those affected by police violence”.
Chris Kaba’s death tragically is now just a symbol of how even in 2024, the agents of the state and the courts continue to brutally treat those who they swore to serve, and yet again the courts allow them to get away with this, epitomising the deep-rooted racism that is prevalent within the UK establishment even in the modern era.
